Cities are becoming smarter—but only when technology, people, and sustainability work together.
This course introduces the core principles of Smart Cities, offering an integrated view of how technology, governance, business models, and social aspects combine to address the complex challenges of modern urban environments. Using a system‑oriented approach, you will learn how smart city components interact and how data, infrastructure, and citizens shape resilient and sustainable cities.
Through real‑world case studies and global examples, the course explores smart technologies, energy systems, digital platforms, and performance assessment—while placing strong emphasis on quality of life, citizen engagement, and long‑term sustainability.
The course is taught by Prof. Miroslav Švítek, one of the leading European experts in Smart Cities and complex systems, Professor at the Czech Technical University in Prague (ČVUT) and internationally recognized for his work in smart urban ecosystems and intelligent transport systems. [fd.cvut.cz]
